For the first time, HFF is offering a special adventure for just 16 guests who want to experience the magic of Hornstrandir and the world’s most remote film festival, without carrying everything on their backs. This journey is an extension of Hornstrandir Film Festival 2027 and there’s something very special about these 16 spots: by joining the journey, you are also helping make the festival itself possible. Rather than relying on traditional sponsors, the participation of these 16 guests helps us finance HFF and gives us, the festival hosts, the freedom to create the festival independently. In that sense, you’re not simply coming along for the adventure, you’re becoming part of the reason HFF 2027 can happen.

You’ll still hike, this is Hornstrandir, after all! — but mainly with a daypack. We provide accommodation and meals along the way, giving you a little more comfort while keeping the adventure very real. Think Hornstrandir Film Festival with lighter backpacks, a little less suffering and a little more comfort.

The Journey

​

August 8 — Ísafjörður → Hornvík
Boat to Hornstrandir and hike the spectacular Hornbjarg cliffs. Dinner, breakfast and overnight at Borea Base Camp.

​

August 9 — Hornvík → Hlöðuvík
A beautiful 12 km hike with daypacks to Hlöðuvík, where the yellow houses become our home for three nights.

​

August 10 — HFF Cinema Night
Explore Hlöðuvík before gathering for an evening of specially selected documentaries from the HFF 2027 programme. Cinema doesn’t get much more remote than this.

​

August 11 — Hælavík
A day trip into the history, poetry and storytelling traditions of Hornstrandir before returning to Hlöðuvík.

​

August 12 — Hlöðuvík → Hesteyri
Our longest hike — approximately 17 km — takes us to historic Hesteyri and the Old Doctor’s House. And if we’re lucky, Hrólfur might even bring out the accordion.

August 13 — Return to Ísafjörður
After breakfast, we travel by boat back to Ísafjörður with six days unforgettable days of wilderness, cinema, stories, hiking and new friendships behind us.

You can only bring one backpack, that can fit:

• A sleeping bag and pillow

• Outdoor clothing (layers) for 6 days in Iceland’s unpredictable weather

• Swimwear and towel

• Sandals for crossing rivers and wearing inside the houses

• Personal toiletries and other necessities
